PEP! is the Pet Education Project and it is our mission to educate and inspire kids to be responsible pet owners and animal heroes! Did you know that over 270 pets are surrendered into shelters every hour in the United States?! That is a lot of animals and the saddest part is that it is not the pet's fault or shelter's fault- it is people's fault.
If people were more responsible or properly prepared on the time, costs, and resources that it takes to raise a pet, we wouldn't have so many pets ending up in shelters.
Often times, when people get a pet, they get it for the wrong reasons and often choose the wrong pet for their family. Pets are not toys and you should not get one simply because it is cute.
That is why we teach kids that pets are lifetime commitments and can live to be up to 10, 15, and sometimes 20 years old!
PEP! is all about having fun and making a difference while at it! One of our favorite things about PEP! is our PEP! Squad, which is made up of hundreds of thousands of kids from across the world who are making a difference in the lives of animals. (Be sure to follow us on TikTok @ ilovepep and instagram!)
Kids like Camdyn and Jaclyn are proud members of the PEP! Squad and love our message so much that they did a school wide fundraiser and raised $700 so we can visit their school and educate all their classmates! While there, we surprised them with our coveted PEP! Star Award! (Watch the surprise video here!) Kids who go above and beyond deserve to be recognized! You can read more about Camdyn and Jaclyn's accomplishments here.
We have a long history here at PEP! Originally started as a non-profit in 2009, we have educated over 1,000,000 kids in schools and online! Our non-profit still visits schools all across the country to teach kids The 5 Steps to a Happy and Healthy Pet©.
In 2017, the founder of PEP!, launched PEP! Inc; a start up company that builds apps and products to nurture the bond between kids and their pets.
Both organizations share the unified mission of keeping pets in homes and out of shelters with the end goal of reducing the millions of pets who are surrendered and euthanized in shelters annually.
We will save team introductions for another post! But for now, lets have some fun! If you have not heard, we are launching an app and we need 500 kids to be beta testers! If you or your kid is interested in being a part of our Test Squad, then fill out this form. We will be notifying our approved testers on or before November 9!
Till then! Stay PAWsome and #BeCoolNotCruel
